LDCM satellite in orbit. Artwork of the Landsat Data Continuity Mission (LDCM) satellite, as it would appear in Earth orbit. This will be the eighth satellite in the long-running Landsat program and is scheduled for launch in 2013. The first Landsat satellite launched in 1972, with the current one (Landsat 7) launched in 1999. Landsat 5 (launched 1984) is also still operating. Here, the LDCM is passing over the Gulf Coast of the USA, with North towards upper right.
