Knee ligament reconstruction surgery. Surgeon performing surgery to reconstruct a patient's anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The ACL is one of the four major ligaments that hold the knee joint together. It joins the femur (thigh bone) to the tibia (shin bone) and is commonly injured while playing sport. A donor ligament has been grafted onto the torn ACL to restore full function of the knee.
