Spain Windmills of La Mancha. La Mancha's traditional windmills like these, still standing at Campo de Criptana, were immortalized in the novel Don Quixote. Although built for solid economic reasons, the windmills are now inextricably linked to the fictitious character Don Quixote and his fabled travels throughout La Mancha. Twelve of the original thirteen windmills have been preserved on the hillside, five of which are in full working order.
