The letter does not state what tem- perature is desired in the greenhouse, nor does it give any idea of the size of the rooms and the amount of window area in the dwelling. About all that can be said regarding the amount of radiation required for steam is that, if the present radiation is Buj£cient with hot water, it will prob- ably answer if about one-half of the returns are removed. There will be no occasion for retaining the 3-inch over- head main; a 2-inch pipe might be sub- stituted for it and one of the flows on the east wall might be changed to a return. A 2-inch pipe on each the hotbed will be suflScient for 60 de- grees in cold weather and one pipe would answer most of the time. Just how much radiation will be needed in the dwelling is not clear, but it will probably not be more than 400 «quare feet, and this, with 600 feet in the greenhouse and 100 feet in the hot- bed, would mean about 1,000 square feet of radiation to be supplied by the boiler.
