The engines are e.\pected to develop 5,400 , with 160lbs. boiler pressure and running at 185 revolutions. Thereare three double-ended boders 11 ft. 8 in. in diameter and18 ft. 8 in. long, and two single-ended boilers 11 ft. 8 diameter and 9 ft. 2 in. long. The forced draft is onthe closed ash-pit system. The coal bunkers will hold 200 tons, and extra bunkersare provided so that 435 tons can be carried. With thelatter supply the cruising range is 8,950 knots at a lo-knotspeed. The contract speed with full power is 17 knots anhour. The armament carried will consist of two 6-in. andeight 4-in. rapid-fire guns. The secondary battery willinclude four 6-pdr. and four 3-pdr. rapid-fire guns andtwo 37 mm. () revolving cannon. There will alsobe six torpedo-tubes.
