SARS virus surface protein. Molecular models showing two views of the HR2 (heptad repeat 2) envelope glycoprotein from the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) virus. HR2's function is to bind to the surface of its target cell and allow the viral genes into the cell, where replication occurs. There are several HR proteins. The type of protein displayed by a virus determines its host.
