Carving of King George III on his horse cut in the chalk of Osmington Hill overlooking Weymouth Bay, Dorset UK
Cut in 1808 to commemorate royal visits to the area by George III. The carving depicts King George III on his horse 'Adonis' , is 280' long x 323' high and was constructed under the technical direction of local Architect James Hamilton at the expense of John Ranier, brother of Admiral Peter Ranier. Owing to ill health, King George III became insane in 1811, the King never got to see the carving before his death in 1820
