A special crushing-clamp isthen applied including the entire pile, but not implicating the skin or mucousmembrane of the bowel. It is of much importance that the clamp be adjustedto the pile in such a way that it has a radial direction with reference to the cir-cumference of the anus. This is to insure the approximation of the woundedges. When the clamp has been properly adjusted and applied so as to crush.
