California {Ovalifolium). A desirable shrub, nearly evergreen, that produces delicate white flowers in great profusion; the flowers possess a pleasant heliotrope fragrance. QlJIIfCE (Japan). (Cydoniajapontca). Scarlet. An old and esteemed variety, having a profusion of bright scarlet flowers in early spring, and one of the best early shrubs; makes a beauti- ful and useful hedge.
