He introduced many improvements in the constructionof railroads and locomotives. About 1826 he made a steamwagfon,* which was the first vehicle of the kind made in thiscountry. It was brought to such a degree of perfectionthat it was pronounced a success, and he therefore patentedit. In 1851 he devised a process for bending timber, bysteaming, for knees of vessels, arm chairs, thills, wheelfelloes, and handles of shovels. He constructed machinesfor cutting and folding envelopes at a single operation.
