North by the A9 to Aviemore then follow the A95 for 12 miles. South From Inverness to Carrbridge, and follow the signs for 10 miles. From the east The A95 runs straight into town you can join it at Craigellachie, from Elgin, Keith or Dufftown. The road in from Forres and Nairn over the Dava Moor is one of the most picturesque wilderness routes I know but for variety travelling from Royal Deeside through the Lecht Ski Centre and Tomintoul exposes you to some of the best views in the eastern Highlands. The Dava Way is a way marked trail between the towns of Forres and Grantown-on-Spey, mostly following the route of the dismantled Highland Railway Line which ran 166km from Forres to Dunkeld in Perthshire. Joseph Mitchell the Chief Inspector and Superintendent of Highland Roads and Bridges oversaw the construction. Building started on 17th October 1861 and the railway was passed by the Government Inspector of Railways on 9th September 1863 having taken 1 year and 11 months to build. Many of the bridges and structures are still standing despite the ravages of time. This trail is a way for you to enjoy the countryside, outdoor recreation and the benefits of improved health and well being. This pleasant and easy route is suitable for both walkers and reasonably experienced mountain bikers. It offers a variety of landscape, flora and fauna along with natural and railway heritage. It is about 40km to Grantown-on-Spey from the centre of Forres. The surface of the path is generally compacted railway track-bed material. It varies in condition and is rough and rutted in places. Depending on the weather, stretches may be very wet. Starting your journey from Forres, the Dava Way begins at Mannachie Avenue some 2km from the town centre. A network of sign-posted paths through the various woodlands surrounding Forres, from Grant Park and the Sanquhar Pond, leads to the old railway and the start of the Dava Way.
