When the thighis bent back so that the head of the femur lies in front of a. line connecting the centers of the origin and insertion, thecontraction of the muscle has the opposite effect. Theadductor magnus thus acts as an adductor or an abductoraccording to circumstances. The adductor, /ongus, a narrow muscle arising from*theventral part of the ileum just dorsal to the head of thesartorius ; distally it joins the adductor magnus. It is partlycovered by the sartorius, but a small portion of it is exposedalong the preaxial side of that muscle. It pulls the thighforward and ventrally. The trkeps femoris, a very large muscle covering the sbml Fig. 70.— Muscles of thefrog seen from the ventralside.
