Thebridges also received attention, those on thePort Stanley road being rebuilt, while anew means of access to the Sixth Ward wasprovided by the King street bridge, underwhich the sewer pipe runs. The WesternFair buildings were greatly improved andincreased accommodation provided, and thecar shops, which had been burnt and theruins allowed to remain for some years, were. .J. W. of London, 1895-96-9; rebuilt, and now give employment to upwardsof 400 men. Matters pertaining to the FireDepartment received attention, the electricalarm boxes being renewed and the aerialtruck purchased, thus giving the Departmentthe use of a piece of fire-fighting apparatuswhich it had previously lacked, while a sys-tem of accident insurance for the men of theDepartment was inaugurated. To add to theefficiency of the corporation laborers, housesfor the storage of tools and implements wereprovided, combining utility with by-law under which the magnificentVictoria Hospital was erected was passed during Mr. Littlesterm. He was also ac-tive in the formationof the London andSouth-eastern RailwayCompany, which,though it never builta road, is still a char-tered company, andof great service toLondon in its variousnegotiations with otherrailway the financial line,duri
