The Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy (VISTA) is a telescope operated by the European Southern Observatory (ESO) at the Paranal Observatory in Chile. VISTA is one of two ESO telescopes used to survey the southern skies. Its mirror is metres across, the largest telescope in the world that observes at near-infrared wavelengths. Its 3-tonne camera contains 16 special detectors. The white tubular structure is the support for the secondary mirror. The camera and its corrector lens (light blue) are just below it.
