She was the daughter of William ^ Dan forth, (William,^ Jonathan,^Samuel, Jonathan,-Nicholas) and Priscilla (Hoadley) Danforth, b. Aug. 28, 1790,Hartland, Vt., d. March 1, 1880, Berkshire. See a sketch of the Danforth family inthe latter part of this work. John Chaflfee was a farmer. He bought land of hisfather, Comfort Chaffee, on Sept. 14, 1820, Nov. 5, 1822, and Aug. 26, 1826, the lastof these purchases including the home farm of his father. John Chaflfee also succeededhis father as tavern-keeper, and he accumulated a comfortable property. He movedthe main part of the old, one-story tavern across the highway to the east side, andbuilt a substantial two-story brick farm house on the site.
