In addition to the largerollers, it is provided with two small roll-ers for the purpose of causing the clothbelt to conform to the shape of the work:as, for example, to press the belt againstthe upper part of the side of the coachand at the same time hold the belt in suchmanner as to prevent its touching the let-ter panel, window sills, angle irons atbottom of tanks, rows of rivets, flange oftanks, etc. I claim that one man can, with the ma-chine, do more work in a day than tenmen could do without it, and do a muchmore thorough job on such work as ca-. The machine, when a lot of sash orblinds are to be sandpapered, is suspend-ed on two trestles just one-half inch abovethe sash, in a horizontal position. Thework is to be laid on a table of suchheight as to enable it to be slid under thebelt and turned about. The machine maybe running all the time, but the sand-papering stops as soon as the trowel-shaped instrument is removed from thebelt. Should the operator prefer makinghis own belt he can do so at less expenseby getting drilling (cloth) and buyingliquid glue and sand prepared for the pur-pose. It is astonishing how much surfacecan be sandpapered before the sand-clothis worn off. The machine is also providedwith a stiff brush lightly pressed againstthe sanded cloth, which dusts out thepaint dust and keeps the sandcloth fro
