Stone mason with light and shadows, Pavagadh Hill Road, Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, Gujarat State, India

Pavagadh Hill is a basaltic cone, 800 m high, rising from the plains in the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, in Gujarat, western India, a UNESCO World Heritage site. At its base is the historical city of Champaner, while the hill station of Pavagadh was built upon the volcanic cone itself. On the road leading to Pavagadh Hill I came across a multi-arched structure (not Saat Kaman), that was having its floor repaired by a group of stone masons. In this image the arches are not seen, but are suggested by the play of light and shadow and the stone mason is crouched beside the stone slabs he is grouting.
