Shaver in the mercantilebusiness en the corner of Shirley andDivision H. S. Smelker U8 On his mothers side Mr. Smelkeris of Qualter descent. He is one ofthe family of 12 children, 6 boys and6 girls. Hei has been an ijctive citizen inthis community, has served ias bur-gess, and has been interested aMaysin the building up of the town. He isan active member of the Baptistchurch today. The stand occupied by Mr. Smelk-er is one of the oldest buildings inthe town, having been erected byJohn Lukens, dece3sed, father of Lukens of town, in 1871, John Lu-kens first started in the mercantilebusiness here, who was succeeded byhis son, Geo. W. Lukens, who waslater succeeded by D. E. Shaver in1884, and Shaver sold to Mr. Smelk-er in 1889. Mr. Smelker i& the fath-er of three children: Mrs. Ada Gloverof Pueblo, Coil., Mrs. Frank DeFrehnof Johnstown, and Miss Eva at home.
