The ruins of the thirteenth century Teampull na Trionaid church at Carinish on the Hebridean island of North Uist
The ruined Trinity Church (Teampull na Trionaid in Gaelic) at Carinish on North uist dates from the 13th century. It was both a church and a seminary said to have been built by Bethoc, the daughter of the lord of the Isles and first Prioress of Iona. It has been rebuilt, restored and enlarged over the centuries and is currently undergoing modern conservation work. The site is of national importance as it is one of the most important later medieval ecclesiastical sites in the Western Isles. It is a scheduled ancient monument.
