A Caucasian silver-mounted shashka, 1889. Broadly fullered (partially pitted) single-edged blade with decorative etching on both sides of the base. Ornamentally chased, embossed and nielloed silver handle. The wood scabbard (broken and repaired at locket and chape) covered with shagreen leather, the silver fittings embossed en suite (chape fitting old, but not part of the original). The back of the locket struck with "84" silver stamp, makerïs monogram "AB" and date "1889". Length cm.
