Around 1500, German peasant revolt had peasant's shoe with a shoestring on its flag.

In the late 1400s and early 1500s, the peasants in Germany, as well as other countries in Europe, were overburdened by work, taxes, debt, religious rules and restrictions and privileges, and much more. Some rallied together and came to be know as the Shoe Leagues. Their symbol was a peasant's shoe with a shoestring on a flag - hence the league came to be known as Bundschuh (German for "tied shoe"). The shoe and shoestring symbolized the rise and advance of the peasants. The league and its members played an active role in the German Reasants' Wars in the late 400s and early 1500s.
