Massie of the firm of Northrup, King & Co., Minneapolis, Minn., gives a small share of his time to the preparation of gardening articles for the general press and finds it ad- vantageous from a business standpoint. He says the newspapers generally like to print reliable information of this character. Wakeman, O.—Our seed sweet, field and pop corn crops growing under con- tract for the seed trade have suflfered some for rain. We were short SVi inches of rainfall in June, the average for that month being about 8 inches. On the night of July 3 we had our first good rain which nearly reached the roots of the corn. Now that it has started to rain we hope for more which will yet give us a satisfactory crop of seed corn. The Canadian Seed Growers' Association. The third annual convention of the Canadian Seed Growers' Association was held at Ottawa, June 27 and 28. The attendance was not very large, but all present were greatly interested in the work of the association. Prof. James W. Robertson occupied the chair. The reports of the board of directors and that of Secretary Newman were read and adopted and subsequently a few slight changes were made in the consti- tution of the association. The pro- gramme included the following papers: "Wheat growing in the Canadian West," by Hon. W. R. Motherwell, Minister of Agriculture, Regina. Sask.; "The Re- lationship between Soil Conditions and Crop Improvement," by Prof. R. Har- court, chemist, O. A. C, Guelph, Ont.; "Qual
