Auto Workers Picket Their Union to Protest Wage Cuts

Detroit, Michigan - Auto workers from General Motors' Lake Orion, Michigan assembly plant picketed the headquarters of their union, the United Auto Workers. They were angry that the UAW agreed to a two-tier wage structure at the plant under which the wages for 40 percent of the workers will be cut by about 50 percent. GM says it cannot profitably produce the subcompact car the plant will build without the wage cuts.
