Greenwich Village, or simply the Village, is a neighborhood in lower Manhattan that is bounded by the Hudson, Broadway, Houston Street and 14th Street river. Originally, this was a marshy land that the natives called Sapokanikan. When Dutch colonists settled in the island, conditioned this land for their crops and named Noortwyck (northern region). After the conquest of Nieuw Amsterdam by the English in 1664, this area became peasant village owned marine commander Sir Peter Warren who gave it the name Grin'wich (later derive in Greenwich Village).
