The Roman Catholic Cathe-dral (the Church of the Immaculate Conception) is a Gothicbuilding situated in Marine Square. Like the AnglicanCathedral, it was designed by Mr. Reinagle and erectedat the instance of Sir Ralph Woodford, in memory of whomit contains a mural tablet by Chantrey. The foundation-stone was laid on March 26, 1816, but the Cathedral wasnot opened until April 15 (Palm Sunday), 1832.
