Inscriptions: woven signature in field, lower right: In palace hall, Athalia is seized by soldiers (L); Joash on throne (center R) flanked by Joad (L), Josabeth (R) & a number of priests & soldiers Borders missing (Cavallo). This panel is very likely part of the 6th hanging of the series L'Ancien Testament, & which included a total of 6 panels. Athalie was probably woven at the Gobelins in the Neilson workshop, & was officially recorded as finished in October 1781 (Soustelle/Campbell). The name "Haardt" appears on the verso of photograph, possibly suggesting this collector owned the piece (Soustelle).
