As I was confined at home, I do notknow anything about it, but anyway Nel-son wandered around the bases, and then waited patiently about until it did appear, and often laughed about it in after years. Speaking of long strikes reminds me ofone which I once made where the ball wasnever heard from afterwards. It gives onea queer sensation to bat a ball up into theair and never see it again, yet that is whathappened upon this occasion. I was bat-ting up to the boys one afternoon, and theball, when thrown back to me, rolled on toBeacon Street Mall. I picked it up andbatted it from there. It went straight upinto the thickly leaved trees. I do not re-member hearing it make any sound, andnever saw it again. Whether it wedged.
