The work of marchingwith the balloons, rilled with gas, was very laborious, and super-human efforts were required to meet emergencies of variouskinds. Still, it must be admitted that the value of the observa-tions made in this way was not great, though the possible valueof military ballooning under favourable conditions was thoroughlyrecognised.
