He was educatedin the Brewer puldic and high schools untilhe reached the age of sixteen, and afterwardunder private tutors in I^rewer and fitted for college he never entered, l)uttook up the .study of law at the Boston Uni-versity School of Law, from which he wasgraduated with the degree of in June,1881, being president of his class and receiv-ing from the faculty the appointment of classorator. He was admitted to the Middlesexbar at (amiiridge in September, 1881, and since then lias been actively and in the general practice of his profes-sion in Boston.
