Effect of benzedrine on spiders. Computer artwork of the orb web of a garden spider (Araneus diadematus) exposed to benzedrine. Benzedrine is an amphetamine used medically as an inhaler and for illicit purposes as a stimulant. A normal orb web consists of radiating threads and a sticky spiral hub (see Z430/519). A spider fed on benzedrine-dosed flies produces an erratically constructed web with many areas missing. Originally published in NASA Tech Briefs, April 1995.
