From September 4 to 12, the writer was again in the dry country east of themountains, this time at Ontario, Oregon, on the Snake river, which there makesthe bovmdary between the states of Oregon and Idaho. Killdeers were abundant,as they had been a month earlier at Crab Creek. It winters fromGuatemala to northern South America and though it reaches northern Floridain late March, it moves northward so slowly that it is the middle of Ma}- by thetime it has traversed the thousand miles thence to southern Maine.
