By J. D. Kelly, A. M., M. D., Utica, N. 3861 The instrument is, in general terms, a syringe and probe combined, andconsists essentially of two parts; the syringe barrel and the probe point. Thebarrel A is made of sterling silver. It is six inches in length, and one-fourth of an inch in diameter. The points is made of virgin silver and is fourinches in length, and one-sixteenth of an inch in diameter. It is attached to thebarrel by means of a screw-cut cap at /?, which fastens down closely upon theleather-covered shoulder at a. It is made of virgin silver, in order to betterresist the action of acids and caustics, and also to secure the flexibility requiredto adapt it to the varying directions of the uterine cavity. The distal end ofthe point is perforated by a number of fine pin-holes, for the escape of medica-ments upon operating the syringe.
