CANADA LUMBERMAN 47 How Progressive Windsor Concern Has Grown Modern Plant, Splendid Facilities and Admirable Office Arrangements of the Windsor Lumber Co.âAggressive Policy Which Has Resulted in Great Expansion The Windsor Lumber Co., Limited, of Windsor, Ont., is a live institution in the Border Cities, which began operating in April, 1914, on a piece of ground at the foot of Cameron Avenue, comprising a little over six acres. They have two private sidings running the full length of the propert y, one connecting with the Michigan Central Ry. and the other with the Essex Terminal Ry. or Belt Line, which links up with all other roads entering the city. The yard is laid out so as to enable the company, by the use of gravity rollers, to unload the bulk of their lumber and flooring direct from car to pile or shed, thereby keeping yardage expense to a minimum. In addition to this, Ihey have ample up-to-the-minute sheds located along the sidings for protecting all their dressed lumber and factory stock. The company have also a modern planing mill for dressing and sizing and also moulders installed for manufacturing interior finish. Adjoining the mill is a complete factory fully equipped with the latest machinery suitable for making all kinds of frames, sash, doors, stair material, cabinet work, etc., such as comes to a yard of this character. All the machinery is Hydro-Electric driven. For their general trade, however, the company buy in carload quantities frames, sash, doors, hardwood flooring, etc., and stock the same in their steam-heated warehouse which adjoins the main office. The office building is a large brick structure of the centre hall type. At the rear of the reception hall is a counter, back of which is the main office.
