With the possibility of a high tide and onshore easterly winds the Environment Agency have issued a Flood warning for Whitby harbour and the River Esk for Friday the 13th of January 2017. Volunteers from the Swaledale mountain rescue team are on hand in case they are needed to rescue or help if the situation gets bad. They have their emergency and support vehicles here in the form of a Nissan Pick –up and a Land Rover. The team members have all their personal protective equipment on, including hard hats and flotation aids. They are positioned on the harbour side in front of a late afternoon sunlit Whitby Abbey.
