A return of $ profit upon an investment of $ from one acre of hay is the result secured through the scientific use of fertilizer upon an ex- perimental plot of ground on the farm of M. W. Casse, located near Water- town, New York. The experiment was conducted under the direction of Man- ager F. E. Robertson, of the Jefferson county farm bureau, and a demonstra- tion of the results achieved was held upon the plot recently. Three hun- dred pounds of fertilizer were used upon the experimental plot. The fer- tilizer was distributed broadcast on top of an old meadow last spring. The meadow had not been cut ia three years. Two areas of one-fortieth of an acre each were weighed up and compared, the yield per acre on the fertilizer plot being 4,880 pounds, while that on the unfertilized plot was 1,920 pounds. The gain resulting was 2,960 pounds due to the use of the fertilizer. Figuring the yield at $12 a ton, the return is $ for an invest- ment of $ for fertilizer, or the re- turns from the investment of fertiliz- er were $ A. F. Philadelphia. AMEEICAN BEAUTY BOSES CHEAP. The supply is considerably ahead ol the demand, nearly all lines being overstocked. American Beauty roses are to be had at bargain prices, extra fine stock for the time of year. This city should certainly lead the country with American Beauty this winter.
