The most bashed bridge in Britain has been hit 113 times in the last eight years, it has been revealed today (Thurs). Stuntney Road bridge in Ely, Cambridgeshire has had the most strikes, according to new information released by Network Rail. The railway suffers almost 2,000 bridge strikes every year costing the taxpayer some £23 million in damages and delays. The end of this month sees a peak in the number of strikes, rising to almost 10 per day.
