One of the most outstanding examples of Anglo-Saxon architecture in England, the Church of St Mary nestles in the folds of the South Downs in West Sussex at Sompting. The most notable feature is the Rhenish Helm / Rhineland Helmet of the tower. The church is mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086 although the original construction date is unknown.
