Among these settlers was JosiahWhite, who, with his wife of Scottishorigin, in the spring of i 775 took up hisabode in the outskirts of an unbrokenforest. Years of hard labor followed,which at length brought to him and hisfamily the comforts of a rural his sons, Jeremiah White, the fatherof the subject of this sketch, succeededto the homestead. He was born March4, 1775, ^^d passing his life amid thescenes of his earlier days, died Decem-ber 5, 1848. H
