Forbes's Three-banded Plover is the only species in the genus which combines the two characters of inner web of outer tail-feathers crossed hy three dark bars and outer web of innermost primaries uniform brown. It is not only without the white on these feathers which is characteristic of the typical Hiaticulce, but has also no white on the forehead. ' Charadrius indicus of Latham (Ind. Orn. ii. p. 750) is founded on the Pluvialis minima indica of Brisson (Ornithologia, ii. p. 234, 1763 edition), described from a bird said to have come from the East Indies.
