This celebrated Flanders PatentPiston Packing consists of steelsprings and blocks of cast iron inthe shape of a letter V (as repre-sented in this cut), so that thesprings between the blocks pressthe piston rings out equally againstthe inside surface of the cylinder,and also force the piston to thecentre of the cylinder at the sametime.
