Appointed As-sistant City Clerk and Treasurer of the City of Newton, January5, 1874:, and served in that capacity until January 1, 1876. Janu-ary 3, 1876, unanimously elected Citv Clerk of Newton, and wasre-elected each succeeding year until he resigned April 1, 1883,to accept the position of Treasurer of the Harvard Clock com-pany, which position he held until 1888, when he as Alderman of Ward 1 of the City of Newton during theyears 1888 and 1889. Was appointed Deputy SherifT and CourtCifificer in 1891, and served in that position until January 4, 1897,when he was appointed bv the County Commissioners Register ofDeeds for the Middlesex South Distric
