Third Afternoon 445—Ti; Ting-yao Ivory-white Bottle-shai-e Vase (Yuan) Disc-shape body with stout long neck and long fluted bul-bous mouth. On neck are two lion-beads and rings mod-eled in low relief. Hard white porccllanous ware, resem-bling soft-paste; covered with a mellow toned ivory-whitethick glaze, finely crackled. Height, 11% 446—Rake Cracklkd White Beaker (Ming) Beaker-shape, wide mouth and base with bulbous centralbody. Hard porcelain, unglazed at base and rim boundwith silver to hide seggar marks, being probably bakedin kiln bottom upwards. Decoration is in white slip in lowrelief, and very boldly and cleverly modeled, subject being,the sea-dragon rising from the waves in pursuit of theheavenly orb, amidst shells and tisli and the flying horse;dots or bosses of various sizes are also used to form a deco-ration around neck. Exterior, interior and base are cov-ered witli a brilliant thick crackle-glaze of ivory-white; thedifference between the paste of decoration and the bodyware has made the latter of darker buff tones, impartingcharming contrasts to the tint of this very exceptionalwork.
