Cranes (Grus grus) are seen on a field in Gallocanta Lake near wind turbines, it is estimated that the annual mortality in Spanish wind farms can approach a thousand specimens. More than 11,000 cranes have been registered in the last days in Gallocanta Lake as part of the winter migration. Gallocanta Lake is one of the most important stopover sites for migrating cranes in Spain, being able to give shelter to an average population of 30,000 birds at one time during winter.
