Hildebrand and Mr Kegge take a carriage ride through Haarlem in the Netherlands. Driving hard, pedestrians with wheelbarrows and of old women who came from the fish market thought it safer to abandon their walk until the carriage had passed. From the Camera Obscura, a collection of Dutch humorous-realistic essays, stories and sketches in which Hildebrand, the author, takes an ironic look at the behavior of the 'well-to-do', finding them bourgeois and without a good word for them.
