Mary, Queen of Scots (1542 – 1587), also known as Mary Stuart or Mary I of Scotland, reigned over Scotland from 14 December 1542 to 24 July 1567. She was imprisoned from 1567 to 1568 in Loch Leven Castle on an island in Loch Leven, in the Perth and Kinross, Scotland, and escaped with the help of her gaoler's family.
