The ancient fortified village of Montefioralle, Greve in Chianti, province of Florence, Tuscany, Italy
The Castle of Verrazzano is located on a hilltop in the area between Florence and Siena, the Chianti Classico, the first production area in the world bounded by the official announcement of Cosimo III de 'Medici in 1716. Place on top of the Val di Greve, a time of military strategic importance, now allows control over the vineyards that stretch up to fan forest downstream. The castle, the first Etruscan settlement, then Roman, in the seventh century became the property of Verrazzano family. Here the tradition of wine is very old. We read the vineyards of Verrazzano in 1150 in a manuscript at the Abbey of Passignano (erroneously reported "1170"). The castle is known for being the birthplace of the family to which belonged the navigator Verrazzano Giovanni. The House of Verrazzano died in 1819.
