Portal of the House of the Prior of San Bartolomé. Almagro, Ciudad Real. Spain
Facade of the Casa del Prior de San Bartolomé, from the 16th century. It was the administrative headquarters and residence of the prior of Campo de Calatrava. Its Renaissance cover is of great ornamental and representative richness, very well carved. It is designed as a triumphal arch, with a pediment on the lintel of the opening that is topped with a very elaborate window. The lintel is decorated with mythological animals and plant drawings, and rests on two recessed jambs, decorated with rosettes and with columns on their sides with capitals, a mixture of Doric and Ionic styles. In the center of the pediment, the prior's shield appears. The window located on the pediment repeats the compositional scheme of the lower span, without a pediment. . Almagro, Ciudad Real. Spain
