Sir Twardowski, a Polish man living in Krakow in the 1500s, is referred to as the Polish Faust. According to tradition, he made a pact with the devil: The devil would help Twardoski achieve fame and money and then at the end of a specific time period (varies according to version) he (Twardowski) would meet the devil in Rome and Twardowski would come under full control of the devil. Twradowski had no intention of going to Rome in Italy and planned to outwit the devil. The devil planned to meet Twardowski at an inn named "Rome" and there he took possession of Twardowski.
