Croswells administration the publicdebt was greatly reduced; a policy adopted requiringthe State institutions to keep within the limit of ap*-propriations; laws enacted to provide more effectuallyfor the punishment of corruption and bribrery in elec-tions; the State House of Correction at Ionia and theEastern Asylum for the Insane at Pontiac were openedand the new capital at Lansing was completed andoccupied.
