But now. thanks to the happy results of our club, that brings us together twice specific purpose of preparing seasonable articles giving plain, practical floricul- tural instructions tor growing plants and flowers that will insure to those inter- ested pleasurable and successful results, and securing publication of the same in the press of their respective localities. For if such an article is carefully pre- pared, devoid of appearance of com- mercial interests, and apparently of. WINDOW BOXES. Balcony display at the Lexington hotel, Chicago. for the clubs to not only identify them- selves with such work, but to actually lead in it. and when it is considered that the florists alone are the direct pecuniary beneficiaries of this work, so fast be- coming popular, it is all the more sur- prising that the fiorists* organizations liave not as yet shown much aggressive- ness in it. Our own club has already taken some initiatory action along these lines, but really effective work can only follow continuous and systematic efforts, and our clubs need apologize to no one for their intervention in this good work, so productive of almost immediate re- sults, and constituting an element of rare value. This work might with much propriety extend to efforts upon ovu" part to se- cure horticulturists and practical plants- men for our parks and jtublic gardens and thus be able to remove from such places the examples of so much abortive work placed there by politicians wrongly occupying these positions and caring little about the work beyond its remuneration.
